What is powder coating?

  • Powder coating is a type of protective and decorative coating that is applied to metals (such as aluminium and steel), electrostatically as a dry powder and then cured in an oven. The curing process heats the dry powder allowing it to flow and form a tough solid film. Powder application does not require a solvent and is VOC free making it a less hazardous coating with environmental advantages.
  • To get the very best result, powder coating has to be done on a clean surface. The paint has to be totally stripped off by either sandblasting, soda blasting or with chemicals prior to powder coating.
